MATH 00131: MATH SKILLS

This course provides an option for students who score a 17 or 18 on the mathematics portion of the ACT or an equivalent score on an approved placement examination to enroll concurrently in this course and MATH 11003 College Algebra. Also, students successively completing MATH 02043 Essentials of Math, with a “C” or higher, may take this course. Class will meet two hours per week and will provide students the concepts and mechanics needed for College Algebra. Students must complete this course with a grade of “C” or higher to receive their credit for MATH 11003 College Algebra. Students who do not remain in and pass this course will be administratively withdrawn from College Algebra. Formerly MTH 0011.

This course provides an option for students who score between 12-18 on the mathematics portion of the ACT or an equivalent score on an approved placement examination to enroll concurrently in this course and MATH 11103 Quantitative Literacy. Students that complete MATH 02043 Essentials of Math, with a "C", may take Quantitative Literacy. Students that complete MATH 02043 Essentials of Math, with a "C", may take Quantitative Literacy and will be required to take this course, as a corequisite. This class meets two hours per week and provides students the support and concepts needed to be successful in Quantitative Literacy. Students must complete Math for Life with a grade of "C" or higher to receive credit for Quantitative Literacy. Students who do not remain in and pass Math for Life will be administratively withdrawn from MATH 11103. Formerly MTH 0021.

MATH 02043: ESSENTIALS OF MATH

This course is designed to allow a student score a 12-16 on the ACT Math sub-score or an equivalent score on an approved placement examination, to go through the math remediation sequence in one semester. Students scoring lower than a 12 will be referred to Adult Education. This course will teach the topics, concepts, and mechanics from the required math remediation, to enable a student to be successful in College Algebra. A student that successfully completes this course with a "B" or higher, may take MATH 11003 College Algebra.  A student making a "C" in this course may take College Algebra, with MATH 00131 Math Skills. Formerly MTH 0203. 

MATH 10103: TECHNICAL MATH

MATH 1013

This course is designed to be the terminal math course for AAS degree plans. It is non-transferable and is not the prerequisite for any other math course offered at UACCB. Students planning to complete a bachelor’s degree should not take this course. The topics covered will include fundamental arithmetic and algebra. Other topics will be appropriate for the various areas of concentration that offer AAS degrees. Formerly MTH 1003.

This course presents quadratic, absolute value, polynomial, rational, exponential, and logarithmic functions and their graphs. It also includes a study of inequalities, system of equations, and matrices (graphing calculator required). Formerly MTH 1023.

MATH 11103: QUANTITATIVE LITERACY

MATH 11103 is designed to be the terminal math course for Non-STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) majors. The goal of Quantitative Literacy is to provide students with mathematical understanding and skills to be productive workers, discerning consumers, and informed citizens. (Students who plan to study any higher mathematics courses will need to take college algebra and not this course.) Formerly MTH 1043.

Prerequisites

An ACT Math 19 or higher or have equivalent placement test score

OR students scoring less than a 19, successful completion of co-requisite course MATH 00201 (Math for Life) with a grade of "C" or higher will be required

MATH 12003: TRIGONOMETRY

This course covers right triangle trigonometry applications, including the laws of sines and cosines, radian measure and applications, trigonometric functions of real numbers, graphs of trigonometric functions, trigonometric identities and equations, polar coordinates, complex numbers in polar (trigonometric) form. A calculator with trigonometric functions is required. Formerly MTH 1013.

MATH 12103: MATH FOR HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONS

This course provides instruction in dosage calculations using the basic formula and the ratio to proportion method as well as other means of calculation related to medications.  Topics include but are not limited to interpretation of drug labels, syringe types, conversions, roman numerals, reconstitution and apothecaries, mixing medications IV flow rates, military time, interpretation of physician orders and transcribing to Medication Administration Records, dispensing, and proper documentation of medications as well as the Six Rights of Medication Administration.  Students must complete the course with a "C" or better to complete the nursing requirement.
